Mary K. Walter

Mary K. Walter, 84, of Overlook Medical Clinic, New Wilmington, died the night of Oct. 21, 2008, in the clinic.

Born Oct. 18, 1924, in East Freedom, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Furl and Hazel Sleighter Cook. She was married to Frank R. Walter, who died Sept. 15, 1975.

Mrs. Walter was a former receptionist at the Red Cross chapter house in New Castle and a volunteer at the Butler VA Medical Center. Mrs. Walter was of the Free Methodist faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Slick of Edinburg and Belva Blews of New Castle; a son, C. Frank Walter of New Castle; two brothers, William Cook of Michigan and Charles Cook of Carlisle, Pa.; a sister, Verda Hoenstine of Bedford, Pa.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Cook; a grandson in September 2008; and a great-great-granddaughter in October 2008.

There will be no visitation. A private service will be conducted at Graceland Cemetery. Pastor Steve Keller will officiate.

Memorial contributions my be made to the American Red Cross or donor's church mission fund.
