Thelma J. Dyer
Thelma June Dyer, 79, of Fisher Road, Portersville, PA passed on October 16, 2014 after a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis.
She was born in New Castle on June 20, 1935 to the late Frank C. and Margaret E. "Cunningham" Fisher. She then married her husband of 50 years, John M. Dyer, who survives at home.
Thelma was a 1953 graduate of Princeton High School. She attended business college and Slippery Rock State College. She retired from the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV of Grove City. She also enjoyed working at The Village Shop in downtown Grove City. She was a member of North Liberty Presbyterian Church and in her later years became a member of Center Presbyterian Church in New Castle . She was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star, member of the New Castle Music Club, sang for many years in Handel's Messiah in New Castle. She also volunteered for many years in the gift shop at Shenango Presbyterian Home in New Wilmington. Her passions were the Pittsburgh Pirates, music, her rose garden and her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children John, Scott, Letitia Schubauer, and Alan, and her 5 grandchildren: Craig, Trevor, Jackson, Duncan and Alexander. She is also survived by a sister Sarah P. Davis also of Portersville, PA.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Sunday at Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 North Jefferson Street, in New Castle, PA.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday at Center Presbyterian Church and will be conducted by Rev. Dr. James A. Bibza, church pastor.
Interment will be in Rose Point Cemetery.
