George V. "John" Thompson
George V. "John" Thompson, 77, of Superior Street passed away at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Kindred Hospital in Beaver County.
Born in New Castle on Feb. 22, 1934, he was a son of the late Raymond and Anna C. Cramer Thompson. He married Helen M. McLaren Sept. 11, 1954. She survives at home.
George was a retired craneman and machinist, having worked at National Castings in Sharon and Blaw-Knox Steel in Ellwood City.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, David M. Thompson of New Castle, John F. and wife Deborah Thompson of Warren, Ohio, and James D. and wife Jolene Thompson; a daughter, Peggy J. and husband Harlin Rodgers of Pulaski; two sisters, Marian Kobilka and Pauline McCartney, both of New Castle; grandchildren, John and Dan Rodgers, Kelly Bartley, Laura Probst, Lindsay Parker, Amber and Sal Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Cheyanne, Charles, and Ashley Probst, Cameron and Hunter Parker, Christian and Myley Rodgers, and Kaylee and Nicholas Bartley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Maria Thompson; and four brothers, Edward, Walter, Charles and Donald Thompson.
A memorial service conducted by Rev. Ronald D. Mounts will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 7 at the New Castle Church of God, 905 Highland Ave.
