Sonja J. 'Davis' Wagner
Sonja J. 'Davis' Wagner, 75 of North Mercer Street, New Castle, PA passed away the evening of May 20 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Sonja was born in Youngstown on January 26, 1939 to the late John J. and Mary H. 'Sanders" Davis. On May 18, 1965 she married Victor A. Wagner who preceded her in death on December 15, 1982.
Having been blind from birth, her Leader Dogs gave her independence. She spent a good deal of her time transcribing printed books to Braille and listening to AM talk radio where she was often a caller. She had a wonderful singing voice and enjoyed opera, classical music, knitting, and the piano. She had also worked as a switchboard operator for the Association for the Blind. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in New Castle.
Sonja is survived by her sister; Sharon L. Ruffner of Salem, OH., two brothers; John "Butch' Davis and wife Barbara of Marietta, GA., Lawrence A. Davis of North Lima, OH., and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Lewis "Pete" Davis, a sister Nettie Seese, and great-nephews Erick Davis and David Perkins.
A memorial service will be held at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, 2020 Willow Way in New Castle, PA. on Saturday, May 31 at 2:00 PM.
