John W. "Wess" Shaffer

John W. "Wess" Shaffer, 84, of 2149 Millbridge Road, Princeton, died the morning of June 9, 2004, in his home.

Born June 22, 1919, in Slippery Rock Township, he was a son of the late Ross and Mae Frew Shaffer.

He married Maude Shaffer on Feb. 24, 1956. She survives.

Mr. Shaffer was a retired millwright from the U.S. Steel Tube Mill in Ellwood City, where he worked for 23 years.

He attended Princeton School for eight years.

Mr. Shaffer was very active at the Castlewood Rod and Gun Club for many years. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, John W. Shaffer Jr. of Cochranton, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Amber Shaffer, John Shaffer and Dana Shaffer, all of Cochranton.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Wardley, Marie Harlan and an infant sister; and a brother, James V. "Vance" Shaffer.

Calling hours are 10 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis Bupp, chaplain of Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery, Slippery Rock Township.
