Elsie Marie Neal

Elsie Marie Neal, 89, passed away after an extended illness on November 17, 2010 in the Avalon Springs Nursing Home in Mercer where she had made residence since 2008.

Elsie was born March 18, 1921 and lived just short of 90 years. She married Francis Leon Neal on December 31, 1941 and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage before his passing in 1994. Elsie is survived by her children, Tom and his wife Becky (New Castle), Daniel and his wife Sherill (Canfield, OH), and Bobbie Pratt and her husband Tom (Edinburg). She also leaves to cherish her memory 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Elsie enjoyed a healthy and active lifestyle; bowling through her 86th year in a league and belonging to several card and quilt clubs. Elsie was always on the go until an aneurysm stopped her in her tracks in February 2008 and her health steadily declined.

Elsie will be remembered as that active go getter who never lacked for something to say, loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally, and was always willing to help out at the drop of a hat. Elsie experienced many blessings and many trials during her life through which she showed patience and the ability to never hold a grudge.

Her life provides an example for those still living that we are not promised a tomorrow (James 4:14) and perhaps the most deadly sin of the unbeliever is that of procrastination. Satisfied with his current life, he neglects his spiritual need. Even if he understands the gospel and realizes his need of salvation, he still puts off the decision. Elsie's life provides the perfect example of why we MUST NOT WAIT (II Corinthians 6:2) for life can change in the blink of an eye! We are also not promised pain free, happy, and smooth days but must depend on God to sustain us and see us through (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).

Her final years of decline strengthened the faith and bond of family members who were involved with her care. It was God's word and promises (such as Romans 5:3-5) that helped sustain them through this trying time. May Elsie's legacy be one of unconditional love, faith in trying times, and a testimony to the importance of Gods saving grace. We rejoice and give thanks to God for the time we had to spend with her, learn from her, and care for her.

No calling hours are planned. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at New Castle Bible Church, 2762 W. State St., New Castle, PA. conducted by Rev. Max Bungard on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. followed by dinner at the Italian Villa on Wilmington Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the church in Elsie's name.
