John A. “Jack” Murdock

John A. “Jack” Murdock, 83, of Shaw Street died the afternoon of Nov. 24, 2004, in Jameson Hospital.

Born July 25, 1921, in New Castle, he was a son of the late John A. Sr. and Gwenne Murdock.

He married the former Dorothy Mae Bevan on April 20, 1946. She survives.

Mr. Murdock was a custodian at New Castle High School, retiring after 30 years of service.

He retired from the B&O Railroad in 1963.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the Medical Detachment, 133rd Infantry, in Italy and Africa. He received the European, African and Middle East Service Medal with four bronze stars and the Good Conduct Medal with bronze star.

Mr. Murdock was very well know for his involvement with the New Castle High School sports programs and band. He was presented a WPIAL-PIAA 1997-98 championship ring as an honorary.

He was a well-known bicyclist on the North Hill.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a brother, Robert Murdock of New Castle, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 10 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at t he Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev. John W. Lyons, a retired pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
