Dorothy Mae Murdock

Former Shaw Street resident Dorothy Mae Murdock, 84, of Rhodes Estates died the afternoon of Oct. 31, 2005, at Rhodes Estates surrounded by her beloved niece and nephew.

Born June 15, 1921, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Florence Davis and Rosser Bevan.

She married John “Jack” Murdock Jr. on April 20, 1946. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Murdock had been employed by the former B&O Railroad Restaurant, where she met her late husband. She was later employed by the former Paramount movie theater.

She was an avid bicyclist, walker and football fan.

She was a baby-sitter, mother figure and contributing factor in the lives of her nieces and nephews who survive.

She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church.

Mrs. Murdock was preceded in death by two brothers, David Bevan and William Bevan; and three sisters, Laura Evans, Geraldine Davidson and Katherine Mack.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Crowe of First Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
