James R. McDeavitt

Scott Township resident James R. McDeavitt, 87, of Reese Road, Slippery Rock, died the afternoon of Jan. 3, 2006, in Golden Hill Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 8, 1918, in West Liberty, Butler County, he was a son of the late Ross and Catherine Young McDeavitt.

He was married to the former Lois Jean Myers. She died July 17, 2001.

Mr. McDeavitt had been the owner and operator of McDeavitt’s Meats.

He was a member of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Frazier of New Castle and Elaine Wertz of Slippery Rock; a son-in-law, Robert Wertz of Slippery Rock; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Gould; and a great granddaughter, Nicole Frazier.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Herb Goetz of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
