Chester F. McCance Jr.

Former Edinburg resident Chester F. McCance Jr., 81, of Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, died the evening of March 3, 2007, in the center.

Born Nov. 26, 1925, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Chester F. Sr. and Margaret P. Randall McCance. He was married to the former Laura Heath. She died in 1994.

Mr. McCance was a retired line maintenance foreman and had worked for various railroads in Pennsylvania. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and rose to the rank of sergeant first class. Mr. McCance was an avid country music lover and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Shirley Baron of Bedford, Va., and Leona Smith of Townville, Pa.; five stepsons, Robert Rodgers of Lowellville, David Rodgers and Gary Rodgers, both of Edinburg, John Rodgers of Guys Mills, Pa., and Harlin Rodgers of Pulaski; three sisters, Peggy Skufca of Edinburg, Marie Sterns of Holly Hills, Fla., and Elva Fogerty of Austin, Texas; 22 stepgrandchildren; 28 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Hunter McCance; a stepgranddaughter, Kimberly Rodgers; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Lisa Loper.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Elder Karl Lutgens of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Jackson Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
