Ethel L. Mayer-Hogue
Ethel L. Mayer-Hogue, 86, formerly of Copper Road in Slippery Rock Twp. passed away the evening of February 27 at the Grove City Medical Center in Grove City, PA.
Ethel was born in Slippery Rock Twp., August 9, 1927 to the late Milton D. and Florence L. "Aiken" Harlan. She first married John W. Mayer who preceded her in death in January of 1991. She later married Harry K. "Doc" Hogue, who also preceded her in death on July 29, 2013.
Ethel was a member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church and V.F.W. Post #315. She worked as the head cook for 22 years at Shenango High School and at Forbush's Ice Cream for 17 years.
She is survived by her daughters; Sandra Hill and her companion Steve Travis of Mercer, Eleanor McDanel and husband Larry of New Castle, Son; Eric Mayer of Oil City, daughter-in-law Linda Mayer of New Castle, special caring friend; Kathy Beltz of New Castle, 8 Grandchildren, 18 great gandchildren, one great-great grandson, brother; Lloyd H. Harlan and wife Charlotte of Princeton, sisters-in-law; Mary Alice Harlan of Darlington, NC and Lois Harlan of Energy, and brother-in-law; Richard Fisher of Portersville.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Ethel was preceded in death by her son; William Mayer, brothers; Joseph E. and J. Arthur Harlan, and sister; Louise Fisher.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Tuesday (March 4) at Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 North Jefferson Street, New Castle. Funeral services will be at 11 am, Wednesday at the funeral home and will be conducted by Pastor Marsha Parrish of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.
Interment will follow in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Heart Association or Oak Grove Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
