John Lapinsky, 93, of Mill Bridge Road, Slippery Rock Township, died the afternoon of Jan. 23, 2007, at his home.
Born Oct. 30, 1910, in New Castle, he was a son of the late William and Anna Sczurku Lapinsky. He was married to the former Agnes M. Tetmeir for 46 years. She survives.
Mr. Lapinsky was a retired mechanic and owned Lapinsky’s Garage on Route 422. He was a graduate of the former Princeton High School. Mr. Lapinsky was a co-founder of the Slippery Rock Township Volunteer Fire Department, co-founded the Castlewood Rod and Gun Club, and was a charter member of the New Castle Pistol Club. He achieved a master rating in pistol shooting and was a Golden Eagle in the National Rifle Association. He also was a former justice of the peace and served on the Laurel School District school board. He was a member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, where he was a former elder and clerk of sessions.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a brother, Michael Lapinsky of Indiana, Pa.; a sister, Helen Davis of Slippery Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev. Marsha Parrish of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.
