Norman G. Jones
Norman G. Jones, 85, of Route 422, Slippery Rock Township, died at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 30, 2006, in the VA Medical Center, Butler.
Born Aug. 31, 1921, in New Castle, he was a son of the late John C. and Elizabeth Wagner Jones.
Mr. Jones was a retired farmer and road construction worker. A World War II US Marine Corps Corporal, he took part in the invasion of Iwo Jima at the time of the famous flag raising. Mr. Jones was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing his guitar, mandolin, and banjo. He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Roy G. Jones and Dick H. Jones, both of New Castle, and three sisters, Glenola Jones, Helen McMurray and Winifred Black, all of New Castle. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Rohde and Verlee Anderson, and three brothers, Clair Jones, John Jones, and Lloyd Jones.
Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis L. Bupp, Jameson Hospital chaplain, will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
