Carolyn “Carrie” M. Hanna

Carolyn “Carrie” M. Hanna, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of April 14, 2005.

Born March 22, 1912, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Caroline M. Redick and Alfred W. Snyder.

She graduated in 1929 from Union High School, where she participated in choir, basketball and the drama club.

Carrie was wed to Victor Hugh Hanna on Dec. 27, 1930. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage when he passed away on April 24, 1990.

Survivors include sons and daughters, Carolyn “Anne” Chambers of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; John R. Hanna of Deerfield, Ohio; Elvie M. Hannon of San Antonio, Texas; Phillip V. Hanna and his wife, Joanie, of Virginia Beach, Va.; Edward C. Hanna of Brookfield, Ohio; and Kathleen M. Olinick and her fiancé, Robert W. Johnson, of New Castle.

Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Carrie was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred W. Snyder Jr.; sisters Elvie M. Mitchell, Elsie S. Chamberlain and Helyne J. McWilliams; sons-in-law J. Ralph Chambers and Harold F. Hannon Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn J. Leonard Hanna, wife of son, John.

She was a member of WIMODAUSIS, a charter member of the Union Township Volunteer Fire Department and a 30-year participant in the Catholic Charities Challenges on Aging Program.

She was a longtime supporter of the Union Township VFW bingo, an expert knitter, crossword enthusiast and card shark.

In her youth, she enjoyed dancing at Yankee Lake and Cascade Park ballrooms, and she played the piano.

Carrie was supremely adored by her children, family and friends. She was beautiful and patient, silly and gracious, tenacious and wise. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St., where a funeral service will take place at 1 p.m.

Pastor George Yates of the New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
