John K. Gilkey

John K. Gilkey, 61, of 524 Continental Drive died the night of July 31, 2005, on the track of Laurel High School.

Born Nov. 7, 1943, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Frank and Olive Roberts Gilkey.

He was a clerk at the post office in New Wilmington.

Mr. Gilkey was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Second Wind Running Club.

Mr. Gilkey was an avid sports fan, and a very involved and loving father and grandfather.

He attended New Life Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Thomas of New Castle and Tammi Gilkey of Mercer; a son, Shawn Gilkey, at home; a brother, Thomas Gilkey of New Castle; a sister, Joanne Glitch of Bremerton, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Gilkey.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Bailey, pastor of New Life Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
