Amsey M. Gibbs
Retired machinist Amsey M. Gibbs, 74, of Idlewild Drive, Union Township, died the afternoon of Nov. 2, 2003, in his home.
Born May 18, 1929, in Keating, Pa., he was a son of the late William and Virginia Woodring Gibbs.
He married the former Salena R. Morris on Aug. 29, 1974. She survives.
Mr. Gibbs worked at Forney Corp. and Mesta Machine.
He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Gregory Gibbs, Douglas Gibbs and Brian Hall, all of New Castle; three stepsons, James Black of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Daniel Black and David Ramsey, both of New Castle; two brothers, William Gibbs and John "Mick" Gibbs, both of Emporium, Pa.; five sisters, Virginia Russell, Susan Kline and Gertrude Smith, all of Emporium, Mary Jane Peterson of Norco, Calif., and Patricia Zofrea of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Gibbs, Robert Gibbs and James Gibbs; and four sisters, Louise Rutz, Bessie Neenan, Lois Brown and Nina Shadman.
Visitation is 1 to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis L. Bupp, chaplain of Jameson Hospital and Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
