John “Jack” S. Gaston

John “Jack” S. Gaston, 85, died the night of Aug. 31, 2007, at the Overlook Medical Clinic, New Wilmington.

Mr. Gaston was born Nov. 2, 1921, in New Castle to John S. and Dorothy Humble Gaston.

He married the former Sarah J. Hares. She died June 7, 2007.

A graduate of New Castle High School, Mr. Gaston attended Westminster College and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern New Mexico University.

A retired teacher, he worked in schools in Albuquerque, N.M. He was also a former conductor of the Albuquerque Symphony Orchestra.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Gaston retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel. He served 20 years in the Air Force as a pilot, flight instructor, personnel officer and squadron adjutant at various bases.

Mr. Gaston was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a brother, Howard Gaston of New Castle, and a sister, Shirley Dover of New Castle.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Gaston was preceded in death by a son, John S. Gaston, and a daughter, Sarah Gaston.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
