Elsie F. Barker

Elsie F. Barker, 95, a former Delaware Avenue resident, died the morning of Dec. 11, 2006, in Jameson Care Center.

Born May 19, 1911, in Leetonia, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Emil and Emma Scholer Grieder. She was married to Leland P. Barker. He died Sept. 16, 1994.

Mrs. Barker was a retired office manager at Campbell Co. in New Wilmington, where she worked 41 years. She was a graduate of Mount Jackson High School and the former New Castle Business College. She was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, where she belonged to the Women’s Bible Class and A.C. Circle, and was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include one sister, Pearl Anderson of Monrovia, Md.; three stepgrandchildren, Richard Barker of Annville, Pa., and Robert Barker and Phyllis Sanner both of New Castle; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a stepson, George Barker; four sisters Lenora Hayes, Emma Latimer, Lena Cover and Anna Elmore; and three brothers, George Grieder, August Grieder and Charles Grieder.

Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. William A. Blacksmith of Highland Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
